Frequently Asked Questions

Am i receiving the best quality pool blanket?

Pool and Outdoor use Sealed Air Australia Suncap® Pool Blanket Material, material made in Australia for Australian conditions. Sealed Air have been perfecting the Suncap® Pool Blanket Material for over 25 years, Sealed Air Austalia's material is renowned for being the most durable in our harsh environmental conditions. This is evident in that the 5 Leading Pool Cover Manufacturers in the country all source their material from Sealed Air Australia. Do yourself a favour and do not buy anything different.

There are a number of material thickness grades available, Pool and outdoor only manufacture pool covers in the top two graded materials - those being the 400 micron and 500 micron thicknesses, which they feel offers the best value for money to the buying public.

Is my pool blanket covered by a warranty?

Yes! All Pool Covers sold by "Pool and Outdoor" are covered by the manufacturer's prorata warranty applicable to each thickness grade sold. For example the 400 micron pool covers has a 5 year prorata warranty, whilst the 500 micron pool cover has an 8 year pro rata warranty. Further, the warranties are honoured promptly and cheerfully.

How do you choose between the different blanket thickenesses?

Fortunately, "Pool and Outdoor" only offer two choices of thicknesses (the top two). In terms of performance such as warming the pool or reducing the evaporation effect, they are exactly the same. The difference is in the thickness and how long they will last. One other consideration is that elderly customers may find the 400 micron material a little lighter and easier to handle.

Is buying from Pool and Outdoor secure?

Absolutely!

When ordering, how should i measure my blanket?

Measuring your pool is very easy. Simply measure the maximum water length and maximum water width. Please keep in mind that your pool cover will be manufactured in a rectangle, some shapes are a little more trickier than others eg. kidney shape pools. So when measuring try and visualise placing your pool in an imaginary box and measure the length and width of this box. An additional 300mm will be added to the length and an additional 300mm to the width for any discrepancies.

If the water temperature exceeds 30 degrees Celsius or the outside air temperature exceeds 35 degrees Celsius, then yes, take the Pool cover off the pool, place the suncover over the top, ensuring all of the pool cover material is protected and place in a shaded area.

How do i clean the top of the Pool Cover?

Although the majority of the dirt and leaves will blow away with the wind, if the cover has some residual water on the surface, there will be times when the pool cover becomes dirty. If you have a blower you may be able to blow the material (be careful not to blow to close to the edge of the material or you might flip the cover), alternatively you can use your pool brush to push the dirt and leaves into a corner and remove with your hand. Finally use the hose to wash the dirt and leaves towards the skimmer box, or a combination of all three.

Do i allow for any extra material?

No! The measurements you order are waterline (coping) to waterline (coping) measurements. The "Australis Manufacturing" production team will allow an additional 300mm to the widt of your cover and an additional 300mm to the length of your cover.

Where should i place the roller?

The key point to note here is that neither the SS270 (Stationary) nor the SS400 (Fully Mobile) roller are fixed/ fastened to the ground. Both rollers are free standing and you have the ability to manoeuvre the roller at your leisure. The roller tube should sit over the coping of the end of the pool with the one leg on either side of the pool. With that in mind, where should you position the roller?

* Try and keep the roller away from the entry point into the pool area(gate). If you have two or more entrances, try and avoid the roller being positioned in front of the most frequently used gate. Otherwise you may well be constantly stepping over it, or moving it out of the way.

* Try and avoid positioning the roller across the most frequently used entrance point (steps) to the pool.

With those two points in mind, the roller is usually positioned at the widest point of the pool, so that all of the material will roll up flat. If this is not possible and the roller needs to be shorter than the widest point of the pool, than a fold may be required prior to the rolling action.

How long should i order my roller?

With the above steps and positioning in mind, it is determinable on how much room is around the pool. Pool and Outdoor would suggest ordering your roller 400mm (0.4m) longer than the widest point of your pool. For example, if you have ordered your blanket at 9.2m x 4.6m, then ideally the roller length you would order is 5.0m. This is the optimum sizing scenario of your roller, but please ensure that you have sufficient room for this size roller.

Do i have to have a roller?

The honest answer is no. It is quite possible to utilise any size pool cover without a roller, however, it must be said that a pool cover over 20sqm (7m x 3m) can get quite tedious and cumbersome. Without a roller you need sufficient space around the pool to fold the blanket up. Once folded, a shaded area to store. For most pools we strongly recommend the use of a roller.

How long does it take to receive my solar blanket and roller order(s)?

You should receive your order within 5 working days. Two (2) working days to process and manufacture your cover and roller and three (3) days to deliver.

How do i prolong the life of my Solar Blanket?

There are two main steps to prolong the life span of your Solar Pool Cover.

Firstly, have your Swimming Pool water checked by a professional at least once every month. They will ensure that your swimming pool water remains between the optimum 2 - 2.5ppm (parts chlorine per million parts water). Your Local Pool Shop or Pool Maintenance Person should keep records of the chemical concentration of your swimming pool, as these will be useful for warranty claims in the unlikely chance of pool cover material breakdown. Also, a water test at your local Pool Shop should be free, so long as you buy your chemicals in store.

Secondly, when the cover is removed from the pool and if you have a roller system, simply place the suncover over the rolled up material (a suncover is provided with every pool cover roller purchase through Pool and Outdoor). If a roller is not present, ensure that the pool cover material remains in complete shade. The Solar Blanket material is designed to generate heat through the bubbles. If the blanket is folded on top of itself and you have layer upon layer of bubble material on top of itself, the solar blanket's capacity to generate heat is magnified and can cause serious damage to the cover.

Will a Leaf and Debris Cover or Solar Pool Cover deter wild ducks?

Yes! A pool cover will deter ducks, by preventing them access to the water. Remember, that ducks are habitual creatures and it may take a few days or longer for the duck to realise they can no longer use your pool water as a toilet.

Can i use my Leaf and Debris Cover as a safety cover?

The answer is defninitely NOT. The leaf and debris cover is designed to keep leaves and rubbish out of your pool, not people or animals. It is no substitute for an approved fence.

Will my pool cleaner still work when the cover is on?

Yes most pool cleaners will operate normally under the cover.

Do i need a roller with the leaf and debris cover?

No, the fabric in a leaf and debris cover is much lighter than say the bubble solar blankets and do not requires a roller for ease of rolling. However, we have in the past attached a roller to a leaf and debris cover at the customer's request, the customer was very pleased with the end result. To answer the question though, a roller is not required for a leaf and debris cover.

Will the leaf and debris cover help with stopping evaporation?

Yes, while they are not quite as effective as a solar blanekt for stopping evaporation, a leaf and debris cover will still reduce the evaporation, a leaf and debris is much lighter than say the bubble solar blankets and do nmot require a roller for ease of handling. A roller can be fitted if desired but generally it is not required.

Can the rainwater still get into the pool when the leaf and debris cover is on?

Yes, this type of cover fabric is weave and as such is porous, therefore the rainwater will be able to go through the cover and into the pool. The weave mesh is however, very fine, which allows the cover to do such a great job of keeping all kinds of small particles out of your pool.

Can you stub your toe on the fixing cleats that fasten the cover?

Its possible, but the cleats can be strategically positioned so that this possibility is greatly reduced. An alternative is to fit removable cleats which can be totally removed from the pool when the pool is in use. For larger pools however, the fixed variety of fixing cleats are more effective.

Can the leaf and debris cover remain on the pool for an extended period of time?

Yes, in fact these covers are often used to shut down the pool completely for the winter.

Are the leaf and debris covers difficult to put on and take off?

No, but they do take longer than a solar blanket and roller which takes about 30 seconds on average. However, even though they take a little longer than a solar blankets, the time saved in not having to clean the pool nearly as often during the year makes a leaf and debris cover more than worthwhile.
